Sewing is my therapy.

Deb gift 1

Last week I posted a little parcel of handmade goodies to Deb.   You could call it a random act of kindness.  I wanted to make her something, to say thank you for being herself.  To me, she is so inspiring.  I love reading her blog and following her on Instagram.  She makes beautiful quilts.  She works hard at studying at University and raising her kids.  I really love her honesty on her blog and on Instagram.  She is not afraid to talk about difficult things like her feelings. I wish I could be so honest.

I included a letter with the handmade goodies.  I only meant to say a few words, to thank her for being so inspiring and honest. In the end, it was a few pages long, confessing how 2014 had been the worst year of my life and the reasons why.  I talked here about my grief at losing both my Nana and then my Grandma last year.  There were other things that made 2014 an awful year.  I am not ready to talk about them here.  Maybe one day I will be ready.

Deb gift 4

Once I had posted the parcel to Deb, I worried that I'd dumped all my pain on her. She has experienced her own share of pain and grief, she is open and honest about it on her blog and on Instagram. I felt relief to have shared all this in my letter but part of me felt guilty for burdening Deb.

I did not and could not know how she would receive my letter. It was a complete surprise to me that my letter did not burden her but uplifted her.  (She wrote about it here on her blog). I could then see clearly, by sharing my pain and grief with her, I was acknowledging her own pain and grief.  We all feel better when we talk about these things, it is part of the healing process.  It is not healthy to anyone to bottle up their emotions.

Deb has helped to heal me. I feel stronger. I feel supported.  Deb is my friend (even if we have never met).  I loved making all these goodies for her.

Sewing is my therapy. What is yours?

My (type of bliss) Creative Space

Well hello peeps,

This week has been bliss.  Every morning, I have had 3 hours to myself.  Three hours! 180 minutes. 10,800 seconds.  So, what have I been doing?  Creating, sewing, making cards.  It has been bliss.  I feel so inspired, having that time to myself with no little people making demands on me, I can really concentrate on being creative.  I am loving it. I probably should be doing some more exercise, but I'll get to that another day or week.

Zoe is now at kinder 5 mornings a week for 3.5 hours each day. I do miss her and I almost run all the way to kinder to pick her up. I am so happy to see her again, but I am loving (so much) this time to be me.

Now I have no excuse.  I hope to be opening up my very own etsy shop soon.

This week I have been busy sewing.

Under construction

I have been busy cutting fabric circles, ready to turn into hair bobbles.

Today's fabric palette.

I have been busy making cards and playing with paper.

Paper fun

I feels like I have waited a lifetime to get to here, to this happy, blissful place, creating with a clear mind.  It feels so good.

Happy Creative Space Day to you.

Sunday Snippets

Hi peeps,

Yes, it may be Tuesday, but here are my Sunday Snippets, I am joining in with Tinnie Girl again this week.  My week in a photographic nut-shell.

Party preparations were full swing.  Hair bobbles for the girls.

Today it's all about circles. Lovely round pieces of fabric, soon to be made into hair bobbles/hair ties.

Fridge magnets for the boys.

Fridge magnets (28mm) for the boys goodie bags. #homemade #partypreparations

The Unicorn Dress was finished in time for the party.  It is my most beautiful failure. More about that another time.  I am devastated, in a crafty way.

One Unicorn dress. Finished just in time for tomorrows birthday party.

My Instagram photos are now for sale on Instacanv.as.  This is great for anyone who lives in the USA, but shipping to the rest of the world is very expensive (they hope to change that.  I hope they do)

My instacanv.as gallery is now open! My photos are for sale! #instacanvas

The birthday party was a success.  The cake was amazing and delicious.

The Birthday cake.

The day after the birthday party, Abbey sat her first ever ballet exam (she wanted to do this, it was her choice)  I am such a proud mumma, she handled all of this new experience with such ease (I fear I was more nervous than her!)

Last minute ballet practice before their exam. #proudmamma

Have a great week.  Cat.

My (party planning) Creative Space.

Hi peeps,

This week has been all about party planning!  My big girl Abbey turned 6 at the end of last month, this weekend we are holding a joint birthday party with her best friend from kinder who celebrates her birthday in a few days time.

I need to finish the Unicorn Dress, this will be her party dress.  I started it last week, but got rather distracted with all these other party creations.

Unicorn dress

I have made fabric goodie bags, for boys and girls.

  Goodie bags

3D paper butterfly garlands to be used as party decorations (idea from these gorgeous rainbow cloud garlands)

  Butterflies

Little sewn note books to go in the goodie bags (they are around 7cm square)

Little books

Little Thank you cards to go in the goodie bags.  In English and Mandarin, we do live in China after-all!

Thank you cards.

I have been having lots of fun making hair bobbles to go in the girl goodie bags.

Tomorrow I need to make lots of pink tissue paper pom poms, to be used as decorations.

My (girly) Creative Space

This week I have had fun making a girlie birthday present. One of Abbey's new kinder friends celebrated her birthday today. Since they met just over a month ago, Abbey and her new friend Ellie have become almost inseparable at kinder. Abbey asks me many times most days what is Ellie doing now? Where is Ellie? When is kinder next? When I ask her what she has done at kinder, it always involves Ellie. It is so cute to see and makes me all squishy inside. My big girl, all 4 years of her, is making friends. I am so proud of her.

Ellie's mum summed it up perfectly - they are in love. And it is true, they both adore each other and play so well together.

This week I have been smiling as I was sewing, knowing these creations were for Abbey's dear friend.

Flowery <span class=

I sent Abbey to kinder one day last week, and her mission was to ask what Ellie's favourite colour is. Mission accomplished by my little snoop, Ellie likes all the colours of the rainbow.

Headbands.

Abbey helped me choose which fabric's to use, and I made Ellie a zippered pouch and two headbands.

Little girls can never have too many hair bobbles (hair elastics), so I made some of these too.

More bobbles.

To finish off our home made present, Abbey painted some brown paper with a colourful rainbow to use as wrapping paper and drew Ellie a birthday card.

Happy Birthday gorgeous girl! We had a wonderful time at your party.

Pop in and visit all the lovely Creative peeps over at Kootoyou on Thursday.

Cheers, Cat.

Christmas stocking fillers

I have found a new love: fabric covered buttons. Any excuse, and I am off making them.
I have been making lots of hair elastics as presents for friends and family (we call them hair bobbles in our house)

Making these, has made me look at fabric in a different way, and I am really enjoying the process.

If you need some last minute Christmas presents for any little (or big) girls in your life, I have some for sale in my Madeit shop and also on Facebook. Alternatively, email me on cat@raspberryrainbow.com

Have a lovely weekend.
